Hello my name is Mohamed,
WHAT HAPPENED?
I am 18 years old. When I was 5 an army came and invated our city called Umm Khuzayma Village and our beautiful family home was saddly flattened to the gound. As a result we have been displaced to a Syrian refugee camp with my family and living here for 13 years in the same tent in the desert.
CONDITIONS IN THE DESERT
The Syrian refugee camps are noted as the harshest living conditions in the world due to the dry arid desert, hot days & freezing winters. There are no trees or grass so its dusty and there is literally no shelter from the heat. Every day our tents heat up and it’s almost unberable.
NO WORK MEANS NO MONEY
There is no work in the refugee camps at all so we rely on your help entirely to get some money for food and water for me and my beautiful family. Every day is a new struggle, will kind people help us so we have food or will we sit in our tents hoping for a miricle and go without food and water?
MY FAMILY
I love my family very much and everything I do is for them. I use tiktok and instagram to meet new people in hope they will help me. I have met many beautiful people and call so many of them my good freinds. I hope you can be my friend too. I have two brothers and two sisters and my brother has a wife and daughter. We are one large happy family (as much as we can) and live in one small tent all together.
MY MUM
My mum is the soul of our family. Everything she does is with love from her heart and it’s taught us to have love and compassion for others. Our tents are very basic and pieced together by pieces of material so my mum decorated them by hand embroidering patterns, love hearts and the word LOVE for our family to always rememver we are loved.
My mum is unfortunatly sick. She has a heart condition and needs many pills every day. It saddens me daily to see her unwell. It costs 25 USD per week just for her medicine because it’s very expensive here and hard to get. We buy this first before we buy food and water for ourselves.
MY BROTHER
My brother Omar is the love of my life. He was born blind but he is the cutest and happiest. His innocence supprises me every day and I’m so happy to see him smile. Being blind is the camp makes it really hard for him and my mum but we would do anthing to make him happy. One day I would like to buy him some gifts and new clothes.
FOOD & WATER.
Food and water is hard to get. The land produces nothing so everything is expensive. Our diet is mainly olives, olive oil, bread and some small vegetables. We have to walk very far in the desert to buy food and cart it on our shoulders through the desert to our tent. This job is hard and difficult, but we are grateful when we get food so we just do it.
TENT
Out tent if falling apart now after 13 years of being in the harsh sun so I have to repair is as much as we can before winter and hope that water doesn’t pour into our tent onto our beds in the night. This happens often.
CLOTHING & BASIC ITEMS
Basic items are hard to purchase when food and water is our priority. Clothes for my brothers and sisters as they grow up and basic things like bowls and cooking utensils are alwasy needed. We have nothing so every bit of extra money after paying for medical bills and food goes to clothes and basic items. I never get to buy my mum a gift or something for myself. I hop one day to buy my family all new clothes.
DREAMS
Just like you I have aspirations and dreams. First I want to help my family have food and clothes and not struggle every day. Then I want to buy them a new tent. It costs about 1500 USD but it will make us so happy. For me I love making videos so I want to be a videoographer and start my own business putting together content from peoples weddings to see them smile with joy. To do this I need a tablet but they cost 500 USD.
